This past weekend I went to Boston for my cousin's wedding. This was the first time I've flown United as a revenue passenger - my mom works for United and until I turned 25, I was able to fly standby for a small fee. But they don't let you do that once you get too old (bah!) so I had to buy a ticket.
I've been flying standby my whole life, and there are pretty strict rules as to how it works, so I was pretty excited for this flight. I got to wear jeans. And sneakers. This is very exciting when you're used to an 11-hour flight wearing dress pants, pantyhose, and heels. And I got to order a special meal. Not that I'm vegetarian, diabetic, have high cholesterol, or keep kosher, but it was exciting to be *able* to order a special meal. So I ordered a diabetic meal because I'm trying to cut down on sugar anyway.
With the meal there was a pre-packaged vegan chocolate chip cookie. Normally I scoff at vegan products because, well, I like meat and cheese. But I'll try any kind of cookie, and I have to say, it was hands-down the best cookie, vegan or non, that I have eaten ever. It was really moist and cinnamony, and the chocolate chips were the perfect consistency. It was also made with whole wheat flour, so I didn't feel guilty eating it. So I saved the wrapper in order to find the cookie at home and then buy a whole case or something. I googled "Miyoko's Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie" and to my utter dismay came up with only 3 websites, two of which were press releases for something called an UnTurkey. After a little bit more investigation I found a phone number to call and beg for a place to find this cookie. It turns out they don't sell them to the public and only make them for airlines. "Thanks for you feedback though, I'm glad you enjoyed the cookie!" said the woman on the other line. Hmph. Yeah, I enjoyed the cookie. But if I knew it would be my frickin' *last one ever* - grrrrr.

Hi there, I saved my wrapper as well in an attempt to purchase. When I google'd I got the websites you named plus a link that took me here! How sad to make them only for airlines...guess I can throw this wrapper in the trash. GRRR!
hi, i work for united and i have been eating this cookie for a while now and always had the intention to save the wrapper in order to search for it. I just now did and i am so disappointed because the more i eat it the more i like this cookie. I guess if the company knew, which probably they have not realized yet, the potential of this cookie they would probably consider selling it to the public. It's just a matter of time. I will give them a call too, to let them know there are people out there who want to buy their product, not just airlines. If anybody is interested in calling them this is their number: 503 893 2646
I had this exact same experience- eat the cookie- saved the wrapper and found that it might have been my last one! what a bummer that they don't sell them publicly- you'd think they could make a killing! hell- give me the receipt- i'll sell them to the public! i wonder if it's worth taking another trip on united just to get another cookie! ha!
bummer . . . I too am in search of the Miyoko's Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie. I'm about to call the (503) 893-2646 number at this point . . . wish me luck!
530-893-2646 is the number. I am looking at my wrapper right now! I just called and the very nice lady said they were in the process of expanding. They will ship you 100 of the cookies for around $28 plus shipping. I tell you...these cookies are so good -- I am ready to become a sales agent for them!
Oh sorry! I should mention that she was going to ship me the cookies just because I am in Los Angeles and they are up in Chico, CA so it is close. I don't know if they would ship to the Mid-West or further....
But to the last two comments, if your paying for the S&H why would they care where the cookies end up? Btw, I just randomly found this when I googled "I need a cookie" just to see what comes up.
Who knows I might run into one of these cookies someday, and I will know of the cookie's great goodness.
Oh my god - I did the exact same thing as you. Imagine my surprise when it was your blog that came up as the first hit!
I sometimes order a Hindu meal on United, and on my recent late-night flight back from JFK, they loaded a Vegan meal instead of the Hindu meal, which is the only reason this cookie made it onto my tray. YUM!
I'm hopeful that they will ship me some of these - $28/100 is a great deal for a pretty health-conscious but delicious afternoon pick me up!
